Have I mentioned yet how much I love CurrClick? Why they changed from Homeschool Estore I don't know. . . but the system is still about the same.
Well they are going nuts over there!! Besides your weekly freebie, they have an egg hunt contest that gives you a bunch of coupons including 7 free specific downloads. They also have some other freebies. Now the other freebies happen to include workbooks that go with not free books - so check out the links before going gung ho and downloading.
So who is waiting on links??
http://www.currclick.com/index.php?free=1&filters=0_0&affiliate_id=24265 This takes you to their freebie page.
http://www.currclick.com/product_info.php?products_id=2587&it=1&affiliate_id=24265 This takes you to this weeks freedownload - the History of Sports.
Now you can really scoot around their website looking for the eggs that lead to freebies. I can tell you what they are! Proverbs to Live By Paperdolls; Growing Dictionary; Ancient Greece; Touch buggy; Bible Study; Patriotic Notebooking pages; I know you (Christian).
Now sure - I could just give you the links to those - but that wouldn't be any fun! But I will give you a hint - if you are members of the FL Homeschoolers board - you should stop by and check our freebies section for hints!
Now I don't know how long these freebies will last - so don't wait too long to take an opportunity to get them!
Also - members of FL Homeschoolers get links like this. We have regular updates on Dover; Dover for Educators, School Express and much more! I mean you could fill up your email boxes subscribing to all these newsletters - or you can take advantage of the ease of just visiting the forum regularly. AND if you have a freebie we don't know about - go ahead and share it! You can become a member here: http://flhomeschoolers.proboards67.com/

One of the current buzzes in the FL homeschool world is about the proclamation issued by Governor Crist. In it he proclaims a week as Home Educator's Week.
The problem many are having is the wording.
You make your own decisions - here are the two to compare.
Look for chat on this subject soon!

I contacted Debbie Schwarzer, HSC Legal Team Co-Chair, to ask her what we as homeschoolers in other states could do at this point.
Here is the response that I received from her:
"Thanks for the nice message, Jacinta.
I think right now they need to hear from Californians about this resolution. It doesn't make a law, and we don't need to fuss with the wording. If and when this gets to the bill stage (all the major groups are dreading going there, but the choice is probably out of our hands given the uproar, the Governor, etc.), then we're going to need all the help we can get about why particular clauses are good or bad; e.g., Florida does it X and so a way and it works fine, things like that. I'm sure we'll be calling folks in the states with minimally invasive laws and asking them for advice.
Thanks for the thoughts and prayers. We need them!
Debbie"
So there we have it. Keep up your thoughts/prayers for those in California.

Homeschool Estore has been one of my favorite resources. Each week they offer a free download. They have things like lapbooking/notebook and curriculums.
I just got a notice from them that they are no longer Homeschool Estore. They are now CurrClick. This week you can download an Anne Frank study guide!
Click on their banner for more from CurrClick!

This appeared a few hours ago on the HSC website. It asks that people forward it on so I am posting it here where it can hopefully bring some news to those of us following the case.
The resolution basically states as follows: that homeschooled children perform well at college and in life, that there is a rich history of homeschooling, that an estimated 200,000 children in California and 2,000,000 children in the U.S. are taught at home, that the U.S.
Constitution recognizes the fundamental right of parents to have their children educated outside of state schools, that the appellate decision is misguided, and that the Supreme Court should reverse the decision.
The call for the Supreme Court to reverse is in the second to last paragraph of the version I have seen. Obviously, this goes against what I have been asking people to do the last week (leave the Supreme Court alone lest we make them mad). However, I believe this resolution is intended to serve much the same function as the HSLDA petition, which is to give a group (here the legislature) the opportunity to do something concrete before the Court completes its review. I believe many in the legislature understand that it is premature to try to introduce legislation until that review is complete and we know what the Court believes the law in California should be based on the statutes we currently have in place.
Given the purpose of the resolution, and that the Court will ignore anything the legislature says, I think the resolution serves one other very important purpose. It will help identify who in the Assembly and who in the Senate is our friend, and who isn't. We all know that there are members of both houses who are beholden to the CTA and to unions, and we can expect them to vote against the resolution. But if there are members who support the resolution, especially Democrats, it is in our interest to know who they are, as we will need to work with them should legislation be unavoidable.
This is one case where I do encourage members of HSC and all other homeschoolers in the state to contact their representatives (currently, just the Assemblymembers, as it is not pending before the Senate and will just confuse your Senator's office if you call now)
and encourage them to vote in favor of ACR 115. You can find your Assemblymember and his or her contact information by going to www.leginfo.ca.gov, clicking on the blue box entitled "Your Legislature", and entering your zip code.
Calls are fine, but letters faxed to the office are even better, as they then retain tangible evidence of their constituents' positions. Emails are often ignored, so please call or fax if possible. It is
best to give your name, the city and/or Assembly District you live in and the name of the resolution (ACR 115), to state that you educate your children at home (or support those who do) and wish the right of California families to continue to have that option with minimal government intervention, and to state your desire that Assemblymember
______ vote in favor of ACR 115 by Joel Anderson.
If you have any interesting discussions with staff about this resolution, either a strong indication of probable support or opposition, or any other feedback the legal and legislative folks
should know about, please tell me about it at drschwarzer@comcast.net."
If you notice at this point they are only calling up CA residents. You may wish to take note of their website at www.HSC.org

First I want to thank all the members who came to chat today. I think it was very helpful to see all the different views we had on the unification and separation of homeschoolers. I really love these chats as it provides me an opportunity to see what others think - not just those who live in my area! So far that - Thank you.
I am going to be contacting different individuals and homeschool organizations to get some special guests in our chat. So - if you know someone you'd like to have an hour to talk with - please let me know who so I can try to arrange it!
Also - next week the plan is to discuss Governor Crists' proclamation on Home Education Week. This seems to be another hot topic on the local level. I've seen different views already on some of my local homeschool lists - so hope you will come out to share yours!!
Remember - chat is at 4 PM EST on Monday. For those who have never been to an IRC Chat - it is fairly easy. You can leave the word GUEST and sign in as a guest. We are still working out the bugs on the new chat to register nicknames. If you had your nickname registered on the old chat - that password still applies. If not you do not need a password. You can join chats here: http://www.everywherechat.com/chatnow.php?defaultRoom=FLHomeschoolers
Also - keep your eye open for some site updates over the next few days!

First - the CA Uproar continues. Now posts are finding their way to my inbox bashing HSDLA and asking people to NOT sign their petition. Their statement is that HSDLA is merely doing this as part of a membership drive. I want to remind people that the HSDLA is like any other agency - either their principles work for you or they don't. You do NOT have to be a member to sign their petition. You do not even need to give them your email address. That being said - it is only in the spirit of fairness that I post ALL links related to this case.
http://hsislegal.com/huumans.asp an organization who wants to tell you what they perceive as the truth on HSDLA.
But more importantly - let us look and watch what the Homeschool Association of California has to say on the case. They are the homeschoolers going through this! http://www.hsc.org/Appellatedecision
I am neither for or against the HSDLA. I've been fortunate to never be in a situation where I have needed them.
